No DNA from murder accused on knife, jury hears
Summary
In a Central Criminal Court hearing on 9 December 2015, forensic scientist Dr Stephen Clifford presented evidence that a knife allegedly used to murder 27‑year‑old Jason Ryan on 25 January 2012 contained DNA matching Ryan but not that of accused James Connors, 29, of Rosemount, Drinagh, Co. Wexford. The knife and a baton found at the scene were examined; the baton's handle and middle yielded blood matching Ryan's DNA, possibly from his wounds, while two other incomplete DNA profiles were found but could not be identified. No DNA from Connors was detected on either item. Connors had pleaded not guilty. Justice Margaret Heneghan informed the jury that no further evidence would be presented and the prosecution would commence its summary the following day.
