Malaysian cannabis mule jailed

Lee Zhu Xuan, a 21‑year‑old Malaysian from Pereak, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to importing cannabis worth just over €360,000 into Ireland via Terminal 2, Dublin Airport on 5 June 2024. Garda Alex Murphy reported that a Revenue officer observed Xuan acting suspiciously, searched his bag and found 36 vacuum‑packed bags of cannabis. Xuan claimed he had no knowledge of the contents, saying a friend had given him the bag and booked the flight. He was promised €2,800 for his role and said he was studying music and had high educational fees. During the garda interview he expressed deep regret for his actions. The court heard that Xuan had no prior convictions, cooperated with customs and the gardai, and made admissions.
