Jonathan Cummins, 38, of Henrietta Place, Dublin 1, was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment by a jury in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after a November 2023 series of unprovoked knife attacks. On 2 November, Cummins slashed the face of a homeless woman from mouth to ear, then later that day attacked a male victim in Wolfe Tone Square, slashing his face from mouth to ear, and assaulted another woman. He was found guilty of intentionally causing serious harm to a man, assault causing harm to a woman, producing a knife in the course of an assault, and possessing a scissors. Cummins had 18 prior convictions, including assault offences. The court noted the attacks were entirely unprovoked and the injuries were appalling. Cummins has been in custody since the offences.
