In a murder trial at the Central Criminal Court, James Connors (29) of Rosemount, Drinagh, Co. Wexford, pleaded not guilty to the killing of 27‑year‑old James Ryan on 25 January 2012. Connors told Gardaí that he had called Ryan's home at Hollyville Heights after an argument with Ryan's partner, Samantha Hore, who was in prison. He claimed Ryan had a bat and a knife and that, when Connors approached, Ryan struck him. Connors said he pulled a knife from Ryan's waistband and stabbed him, after which Ryan hit him again. Connors admitted taking tablets and drinking spirits before the incident. The case is set to resume on Monday before Justice Margaret Heneghan.
