Arsonist who attacked famed St Michan's crypt gets sentencing date
Summary
Cristian Topiter, 39, of Dublin, appeared before the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after being sent forward from the District Court on a signed guilty plea. He admitted to committing arson at St Michan's Church on 11 June, damaging the crypt's mummified remains, including an 800‑year‑old Crusader. Judge Orla Crowe initially set a sentencing date for 24 March but later adjourned it to 20 February. Topiter was remanded in continuing custody and requested, and was granted, to be sentenced by videolink from Cloverhill Prison.
