Kerry man acquitted of raping prostitute but found guilty of sending threatening messages
Summary
In a six‑day trial at the Central Criminal Court, a 40‑year‑old Kerry man was acquitted of rape and sexual assault after a jury found no evidence that he had forced the woman to perform oral sex in a Dublin hotel room on 28 March 2010. The jury, however, found him guilty of two counts of threatening or putting the woman in fear between 29 April and 28 May 2010. He had sent her text messages and emails from unregistered numbers calling her a whore, threatening to expose her as a prostitute to her family and neighbours, and claiming she had "false allegations." The man pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was remanded in custody pending sentencing, and his defence sought bail to see his children, a request denied by the judge.
