Murder trial witnesses describe fight between two men
Summary
During the murder trial of James Connors, a 29‑year‑old from Rosemount, Drinagh, witnesses described a fight that preceded the fatal stabbing of 27‑year‑old James Ryan at Hollyville Heights on 25 January 2012. Ms Catriona Purdy, a former neighbour, said she awoke after midnight, heard a loud bang, and saw two men – a taller, well‑built man waving a baton and a smaller man being struck. She confirmed that her statement to the gardai the following day was accurate. Neighbours John Purdy and Tina Grogan also reported hearing a bang and seeing the two men fight, noting that the taller man returned after a brief pause, limping and holding his side. James Connors pleaded not guilty.
