Jury deliberating in civil trial of Conor McGregor over alleged rape
Summary
The jury in the civil trial of Conor McGregor and James Lawrence over an alleged rape in a Dublin hotel in 2018 has begun deliberations. Mr Justice Alexander Owens instructed the jury to judge solely on evidence and disregard any "patently untruthful" statements. The jury deliberated for just under an hour before resuming tomorrow at 10am. McGregor testified that he had consensual sex with the complainant, Nikita Hand, describing it as "enthusiastic, athletic, prolonged and vigorous" in many positions. Hand alleges that McGregor "brutally raped and battered" her in the hotel's penthouse. Lawrence claims he had consensual sex with Hand after McGregor left, a claim Hand calls a lie. Both defendants deny the allegations. The jury must answer two yes‑or‑no questions: whether McGregor assaulted Hand and whether Lawrence assaulted Hand. If either answer is yes, the jury will assess damages under separate headings.
