Rapist caught with child abuse material during investigation gets 3.5 years
Summary
A 32‑year‑old man pleaded guilty to raping a woman on 23 August 2020 at his home in County Cork and to possessing child sexual abuse material. The victim, who had met him through social media in May 2020, was present with his young child when the assault occurred. He forced her to kiss, then raped her, covering her mouth and forcing her to masturbate. After the incident he apologized and sent messages to the victim, who later complained to Gardaí. Gardaí found three videos and two images of child abuse material on his phone, which he admitted were sent by a third party. He had no prior convictions. Mr Justice Paul Burns sentenced him to a headline term of seven years for rape, reduced to four and a half years with 12 months suspended, and a concurrent six‑month sentence for possession of child sexual abuse material.
