Violent criminal jailed for eight years for assaults including unprovoked blade attack on French tourist
Summary
In November 2015, a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court sentenced 27‑year‑old Dean Teeling to eight years' imprisonment for a series of violent assaults. Teeling pleaded guilty to violent disorder and to stabbing Ian McKenna, a 28‑year‑old man, eight times after a brawl at Central Bank Plaza on 9 September 2013. He also pleaded guilty to slashing Gerard McKeever, a 24‑year‑old, across the face with a razor blade at McDonald's on 24 April 2014, and to slashing French tourist Loic Marie‑Magdaleine across the face with a razor blade on Fleet Street on the same day. Each razor‑blade assault carried a maximum five‑year sentence, but the judge imposed four years for each of the three razor‑blade assaults to run consecutively with the four‑year sentence for the stabbing, giving a total of eight years.
