Banned driving offender with 131 priors crashed head-on into patrol car

Summary

Daryl Bolger, 32, of Kilcarrig Green, Tallaght, was jailed for endangerment after a high‑speed chase during the 2020 lockdown that ended in a head‑on collision with a Garda patrol car on Neillstown Road. He broke at least seven red lights, drove the wrong way around roundabouts, overtook dozens of vehicles on the wrong side of the road and reached speeds over 100 km/h in 50 km/h zones. No one was injured, but the patrol car was written off. Bolger pleaded guilty to endangerment and to driving without insurance at several locations in April 2020. He received a sentence of three and a half years, with the final six months suspended, and was disqualified from driving for five years. The court noted his 131 previous convictions, mostly for driving offences, and his participation in an enhanced prison regime. He has shown remorse in a handwritten apology, but the prosecuting Garda did not accept it.
