Jury told it can return majority verdict in Cork murder trial

Summary

The jury in the trial of Peter Jackson, 41, accused of murdering David Hamilton, 31, during a heroin dispute, was informed that a majority verdict could be returned. Jackson, a drug addict, pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. After more than six hours of deliberation, Justice Isobel Kennedy told the ten‑man, two‑woman jury that a verdict would be accepted if ten or eleven members agreed. The jury had been deliberating for almost eight hours and was scheduled to resume at 2 p.m.
