Canadian cannabis mule jailed

In a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court hearing on 10 May 2024, Akuac Mawien, 26, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment for importing 12.5 kg of cannabis worth €250,000 into Ireland. Mawien told the court she was homeless and needed money for her six‑year‑old son, and that she had agreed to bring the suitcase in exchange for about €3,000. She admitted she knew the suitcase contained something "dodgy" but did not know its extent.
