Summary
In a Workplace Relations Commission hearing, Barbara Remic, former head of products and marketing at Suirsafe Technologies Ltd, secured an €88,000 award for unfair dismissal and breaches of wage law. Remic had agreed to a 50% pay cut in May 2022, reducing her salary from €180,000 to €7,500 a month, but the company stopped paying her in July 2022. She lodged complaints in December 2022 and resigned on 4 July 2023, claiming constructive dismissal. The tribunal found Suirsafe breached the Payment of Wages Act from October 2022 to June 2023, ordering payment of €67,500 for the unpaid salary, €10,384 for statutory annual leave, and €3,000 for breach of the Organisation of Working Time Act. The unfair dismissal award was €6,923, bringing the total to €87,807. The company's management did not attend the hearing.
