Dublin man to be sentenced for assault of Dale Creighton

Summary

James O'Brien, 22, of The Mill, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty in June to assaulting 20‑year‑old Dale Creighton on New Year's Day on Saint Dominic's Road, Tallaght. Creighton, who had been at a house party on New Year's Eve 2014, was attacked by a group of people as he was returning to the party. O'Brien was present for less than a minute, approached Creighton from a silver Volkswagen Passat, and punched and kicked him. CCTV showed O'Brien striking Creighton, who managed to get to his feet and was again assaulted by others. Creighton was taken to Tallaght Hospital and died. O'Brien has no previous convictions. The court will impose a sentence next Monday and remand him on continuing bail.
