Abuser jailed for rape of young relative when he was a teenager
Summary
A 23‑year‑old man was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to raping a nine‑year‑old relative when he was 13. The Central Criminal Court also handed him a separate three‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence for sexually assaulting a different female cousin between 2013 and 2018, when the victim was aged six to 11. Justice Ellen Ring noted that the rape occurred while the teenager was also abusing another relative, citing the victim's age, the age gap, the breach of trust and the predatory nature of the abuse as aggravating factors. She said the defendant was aware his actions were "very wrong" and would have imposed an 11‑year headline sentence if the offender had been an adult, but reduced it to six years because of his age at the time.
