Burglar who was put under citizen's arrest avoids jail

Summary

Anthony Donnellan, 26, pleaded guilty to unlawfully taking a 2006 Toyota and possessing stolen property after breaking into a man's home in Glentworth Park, Coolock, on 12 October 2018. Donnellan, who had eight prior convictions and was heavily intoxicated, had written an apology letter and was undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Judge Martin Nolan fully suspended a two‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence, requiring one year of probation and good behaviour. The victim expressed being shaken and hoping for Donnellan's rehabilitation.
