Summary

In a murder trial, defence witness Mark Roe denied fabricating his account of the 2019 fatal stabbing of Derek Reddin by Andrew Lacey. Roe, who was drunk and confused, claimed he saw two men, one with a balaclava and baseball bat, attack Lacey and later struck him with the bat. He said he tried to help Lacey but was hit by the balaclava man, who struck him about ten times before leaving. Roe testified that he did not realise the seriousness of Reddin's injury and that he had never been in a fight or arrested before. He admitted taking photos and videos at the scene and that his clothes were covered in blood, which he attributed to Reddin bleeding out. Roe was released without charge after five Garda interviews. The cross‑examination will continue tomorrow before a jury. Andrew Lacey pleaded not guilty.
