Jury sworn in for trial of pensioner accused of 1981 murder

A 74‑year‑old man, Noel Long of Passage West, has been arraigned in the Central Criminal Court on charges of murdering 54‑year‑old Nora Sheehan between 6 and 12 June 1981. Sheehan's body was discovered by forestry workers at The Viewing Point, Shippool Woods, six days after she was reported missing. Long pleaded not guilty. Judge Paul McDermott swore in a jury of eight men and four women, who will hear the case beginning Thursday morning and is expected to last four weeks.
