Fireman denies going with deceased with 'deliberate intention' to harm murder accused
Summary
David Howard, a 54‑year‑old firefighter and paramedic, testified at the murder trial of Andrew Lacey that he and Lacey's cousin Derek Reddin went to Loughlinstown in 2019 for a "straightener." Howard said that when they met Lacey, the accused began waving a knife and a fight ensued. Reddin fell, and Lacey allegedly "straddled" the deceased and "dove the knife into him." Howard denied that Reddin had a steel baton at the scene, stating he only saw it in the car before the encounter. He claimed he was shocked at the time and could not recall describing the baton to Gardaí. Howard also denied deliberately leaving his phone at home or taking a route to avoid cameras. Lacey, 35, remains not guilty‑pleading in the murder of Reddin, 31, which occurred between 14 and 15 October 2019. The trial continues tomorrow before Justice Mary Ellen Ring and a jury of eight men and four women.
