Man admits facilitating McCarthy-Dundon gang in attempted murder of Christy Keane

Summary

Noel Price, 44, pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to facilitating the attempted murder of Christy Keane by making a vehicle available to the McCarthy-Dundon criminal organisation. The offence is alleged to have occurred between June 27 and June 29, 2015. Price admitted to assisting the organisation with the intention of facilitating the commission of the attempted murder. Costello had previously pleaded guilty to this charge. Mr Justice Tony Hunt imposed a sentence of four years and six months, backdated to when Costello entered prison. The judge suspended the remaining portion of the sentence for four years, conditional on Costello being of good behaviour and keeping the peace. The court noted a humanitarian situation in Costello's case, offering him an opportunity to turn away from crime. Keane, who survived the 2015 shooting at the University of Limerick, was not expected to furnish a Victim Impact Statement but could be invited to make one.
