The Central Criminal Court heard evidence that retired defence forces member Jimmy Devaney, 66, had blood‑shot eyes and scratches on his hands on the night he is accused of murdering Marie Greene, a prostitute, on 13 February 2011. Devaney pleaded not guilty. Witnesses said he was playing cards at the Lighthouse Casino in Custume Place that evening, arriving around 8 pm and returning around 9 pm. He was described as flustered, with a torn shirt and cuts on his knuckles, which he claimed were from falling in a ditch while helping someone out of a car. The prosecution alleges he stabbed Greene six times and killed her because she threatened to expose him as a client. The trial is now in the legal argument stage before a jury presided by Justice Margaret Heneghan.
