Conspiracy trial hears of meetings between CHC and Central Bank
Summary
During the trial of former financial services manager Ciara Kelleher, the jury heard that Custom House Capital (CHC) executives met regularly with the Central Bank between 2009 and 2011. On 5 April 2011, CHC's former CEO Harry Cassidy, John Whyte, head of private clients, and John Mulholland, a non‑executive director, attended a meeting with the Central Bank concerning the dispersal of funds from a mezzanine bond. Defence counsel Michael Bowman SC questioned whether the minutes of that meeting had been read, and Detective Garda Aidan Deveney admitted he had not. The jury also heard that a stockbroker account was a notional bookkeeping place rather than a physical bank account. Excerpts from Kelleher's January 2020 Garda interviews were played. Kelleher, aged 51, has pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud investors, clients and customers of CHC between October 2008 and July 2011. The trial is before Judge Orla Crowe and a jury.
