Man sentenced to 12 years for violent sexual attack on intellectually disabled woman in her home

A 29‑year‑old fisherman was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for aggravated sexual assault of a 58‑year‑old intellectually disabled woman in Kerry on 29 July 2011. He forced entry to her home, grabbed her throat, punched her, banged her head against a door and radiator, and pushed her into her bedroom. During the assault he called her a "bitch" and a "cunt" and burned her face with a cigarette. The victim suffered bruising, abrasions, carpet burns and a loss of independence, as reported in a victim impact statement.
