Dublin man jailed for three years for possession of cannabis while on suspended sentence for drugs offence
Summary
Anthony Daly, 32, of Santry, Dublin, was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis resin for sale or supply on 6 December 2011. The offence occurred while he was bound to the peace under a suspended sentence for a 2004 drug offence that had originally carried a ten‑year term with six years suspended. Gardaí stopped Daly on Malahide Road in Swords, searched his home on Shantalla Road and seized just over 500 g of cannabis resin worth €3,000. He had 31 prior convictions, all traffic offences, apart from the 2004 drug offence. The State sought to reactivate the six‑year suspended term, but Judge Martin Nolan imposed only the three‑year jail term and did not order re‑activation of the suspended period. The court noted Daly's good family background and his efforts to control gambling addiction, but ruled that the breach of the bond could not be ignored.
