'Extremely unlikely' that Christina Anderson was still intoxicated when she stabbed man to death, expert says

In the Central Criminal Court, a toxicologist, Dr Johann Grundlingh, testified that it is "extremely unlikely" Christina Anderson was still intoxicated from cannabis when she stabbed Gareth Kelly to death outside her home. He explained that cannabis effects typically last one to three hours and, given Anderson's last cigarette at about 10 pm the previous evening and the stabbing at about 7 am, intoxication would not have persisted. Anderson, 41, is charged with murdering Kelly, 39, who was stabbed five times as he tried to start his car on 25 February 2020. She pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Dr Brenda Wright, a forensic psychiatrist, had earlier testified that Anderson had bipolar affective disorder, leading her to falsely believe Kelly posed a danger to her and her family, and that her mental condition prevented her from refraining from stabbing him.
