Summary
Christina Anderson, aged 41, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of Gareth Kelly, 39, who died from stab wounds on 25 February 2020. Psychiatrist Dr Brenda Wright testified that Anderson had an alter‑ego named 'Nicky' and reported a history of childhood bullying, sexual assault at 16, self‑harm, and psychiatric illness. She described her father as psychologically abusive and a narcissist, and mentioned a paternal uncle who committed suicide. Anderson's mental health history included bipolar affective disorder, depression, mania, and hallucinations while smoking cannabis. She had taken antidepressants and lithium, and used alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, speed, ecstasy and magic mushrooms. Dr Wright confirmed Anderson understood her hallucinations were not real. Prosecutor Patrick McGrath described the CCTV evidence of the stabbing and Anderson's movements. The trial continues before Ms Justice Karen O'Connor and a jury.
