Schoolgirl brings High Court action over alleged bullying and harassment by male student

Summary

A primary school girl and her father have filed High Court proceedings against the school's board of management, alleging the school failed to protect the girl from a boy in her class who has bullied, harassed and assaulted her over the last two and a half years. The boy is said to have pushed, kicked, used inappropriate language, thrown a book, pulled up the girl's skirt, and pulled her up in front of other students. After the girl reported the boy's behaviour to a teacher, she was allegedly bullied in reprisal. The father claims meetings with the principal did not resolve his concerns and that the school has not treated the boy's conduct as bullying or harassment. He also says the school has refused to seat the two children apart and has not given reasons for refusing his requests. The boy's recent act of kicking the girl caused injury and medical attention.
