Pair guilty of murdering man who died after more than year in coma

Summary

In a Special Criminal Court hearing on 5 December 2022, Robert Redmond (34) and Bernard Fogarty (34) were convicted of murdering Barry Wolverson, who was shot at Madigan's Yard, Swords, on 17 January 2020 and later died after a 13‑month coma. The court found both men guilty of the murder, of assault causing harm to Gerard Wildman (who was also shot), and of possession of a lethal firearm and ammunition at the scene. Forensic evidence showed gunshot residue on Redmond's jacket, supporting his role as the shooter, while no residue was found on Fogarty's clothing, indicating he was not the shooter. CCTV captured the pair moving together on the day of the shooting and later burning a Citroën C4 in Greenwood Estate. The judge concluded that both men were jointly responsible for the murder and the subsequent arson, with no reasonable possibility of another person's involvement. The verdict was delivered by Justice Michael MacGrath.
