A 42‑year‑old man who sent his former partner more than 300 threatening and abusive messages over a two‑week period was given a suspended sentence of 22 months. Judge Elma Sheahan ordered him not to contact the woman, the mother of his children, in any way for two years, except through a nominated third party for Family Court matters. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of harassing the woman between 14 and 29 January 2021 and to two counts of breaching a safety order in January and February 2021. The court considered his seven previous convictions and the fact that he had accessed the woman's email via their son's tablet, finding sexual images and an image of another man. He threatened to send the images to her close family and, after being blocked on WhatsApp, used another messenger app to continue the harassment.
