Summary

Pierce McComiskey, aged 44, was jailed for three years and three months for an armed robbery at Rocks Jewellers on Grafton Street on 16 February 2022. He entered the shop with a knife, demanded diamonds from a female employee, and instead took envelopes of jewellery from a deposit drawer. He returned to his hostel in Dublin City Centre, where Gardaí found an orange backpack, a knife and the jewellery, including 31 rings that he had hidden internally. All the items were recovered and returned to their owners. McComiskey, who has 26 previous convictions and was already serving a sentence for another offence, admitted the robbery and stated he was addicted to crack cocaine. He was taken to hospital after the arrest and is now receiving drug counselling and methadone treatment. Judge Orla Crowe noted the robbery was pre‑planned, involved a knife, and caused fear for the shop employees.
