Insurer gets injunction against ex employee over confidential information claims

Summary

An insurance company, Aon Ireland Limited, obtained a High Court injunction preventing former employee Luciana Bernardes De Castro from using or distributing any confidential information related to the firm. De Castro had worked as a Claims Administrator from March 2020 until her resignation in January 2022. In August 2022 she filed a claim with the Workplace Relations Committee, prompting Aon to search her work e‑mails. The company found that she had sent several emails containing sensitive information, including medical data, to her personal account and a third party. Aon alleged that this constituted a breach of her legal obligations. De Castro, who had been living in Liffey Valley Park, Lucan, responded in November that she had no interest in engaging with Aon and had not cooperated with the company. Aon's lawyers, represented by Rosemary Mallon BL, sought the injunction after De Castro declined to provide the undertakings requested.
