Summary

Michael Greene, 46, of Seabury Lawns, Mornington, Meath, pleaded guilty in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to laundering €104,720 in cash. The money was seized from his vehicle on the Swords exit of the M1 after a surveillance operation that had originally targeted Michael Jameson of Aidton Court, Newtown Mearns, Glasgow. Greene claimed he had been asked to collect the cash for €500 and had no knowledge of its contents. During questioning he admitted to a chronic cocaine addiction and a debt that he said was partly to be written off in exchange for his cooperation. He also stated that he used cocaine to "calm him down" because of sleep apnea. The judge, Pauline Codd, found Greene to be a foot‑soldier, highly psychologically vulnerable and in fear for his life over drug debts. She sentenced him to three years, suspended the final year on the condition of good behaviour, and imposed a two‑year custodial term.
