Irish Dancing judge takes action over suspension

Summary

Glasgow-based Irish dancing teacher and judge Adrian Stewart is challenging a disciplinary decision by An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha (CLRG) in the High Court. The CLRG's Appeals Committee suspended Mr Stewart's registration for three years and fined him €1,000, overturning a prior written warning issued by the Disciplinary Committee. Mr Stewart alleges the suspension arose from comments posted on his Facebook page by his then-girlfriend, who admitted to making the posts without his consent. He claims the Appeals Committee's process was flawed, that it acted outside its powers by appealing the initial warning, and that its members had prior conflicts of interest. In these proceedings, Mr Stewart seeks an injunction to quash the suspension and fine, along with declarations that the CLRG breached its own procedures and that his actions did not violate its Code of Conduct. The matter was heard on an ex-parte basis before Ms Justice Siobhan Stack, who granted permission to serve short notice of the injunction proceedings. The case was adjourned and will return before the court later this month.
