Jury deliberating in Uransetseg Tserendorj murder trial

Summary

A jury of six men and six women has begun deliberations in the murder trial of a 16‑year‑old boy accused of killing Uransetseg Tserendorj in Dublin in January 2020. The boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter on 29 January 2021, a plea the State rejected. He also pleaded guilty to producing a knife and attempting to rob Ms Tserendorj on 20 January 2021. The trial heard that Ms Tserendorj was returning home from work at about 9 pm when the accused asked for money, she refused, and he inflicted a fatal stab wound to her neck that severed her carotid artery. She was taken to Connolly Station, called her husband, and later died at Mater Hospital on 29 January. The judge instructed the jury to focus on the evidence, the accused's state of mind, and factors such as age, immaturity, panic and intoxication.
