'I done it. I didn't mean to do it. I'm sorry for it,' boy accused of murder told gardai
Summary
A 16‑year‑old boy stood trial in the Central Criminal Court for the murder of Mongolian national Urantsetseg Tserendorj, who was stabbed in the neck on 20 January 2021 while walking home from work. The accused told Gardaí that he had gone out that night with a knife to rob someone. He said he panicked, pulled the knife from his pocket and stabbed Ms Tserendorj, admitting "I did it" and expressing remorse. Garda witnesses described the boy's interaction with his grandmother, who was upset and wanted him to hand himself in, and the discovery of a knife in his home during a search. The boy pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, to producing a knife and to attempting to rob Ms Tserendorj. The case is proceeding before a jury and Mr Justice Tony Hunt.
