Regency trial views footage of gunman's escape
Summary
The trial of Gerry Hutch, Paul Murphy, and Jason Bonney for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel on February 5, 2016, continued before a three-judge court. All three defendants, who are alleged to have participated in or contributed to the killing, have pleaded not guilty. The prosecution presented CCTV evidence depicting the escape of the assailants, including a black BMW X5. Garda Michelle Purcell detailed footage showing the vehicle's movements from Portmarnock to St Vincent's GAA grounds, where six individuals, including a man in a wig and a man in a flat cap, were seen fleeing. The prosecution alleges the man in the flat cap was the deceased Kevin Murray, who cooperated with the tactical team. Counsel stated that the escape route is central to the cases of Murphy and Bonney, who are accused of providing access to motor vehicles. The defense for Bonney indicated the identification evidence would be challenged. The trial is ongoing and was adjourned to continue on Monday before Ms Justice Tara Burns, sitting with Judges Sarah Berkeley and Grainne Malone.
