Man charged in connection with garda surveillance operation admits taking photos
Summary
In a 2014 case, Corey Mulhall, aged 41, was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation, the Irish Republican Army, after being arrested in September 2012. Mulhall admitted taking photographs of the Garda complex at Harcourt Street on 26 September 2012. He had rented a room in the Harcourt Hotel under the alias "Jason Egan" and brought a camera and a rucksack. Between 14:15 and 16:53 he photographed mainly the right‑hand side of the complex. Mulhall claimed he was paid €200 by an unnamed man, allegedly connected to dissident republicans, to book the room and take the photos. The court ruled the trial could proceed despite a defence application that the prosecution had not disclosed a document offering an alternative explanation for Mulhall's arrest. The trial was scheduled to continue before Judge Paul Butler. Corey Mulhall pleaded not guilty.
