Jail over €125k drugs raid

Summary

A Dublin man, James O'Beirne, aged 32, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for possession of drugs worth €125,211. Garda Kieran O'Neill presented evidence that a search warrant was executed on a Clondalkin property on 15 February 2021. Gardai found O'Beirne and a woman sleeping on the couch, a bag of white powder on the coffee table, a shopping bag containing a block of brown powder, two plastic tubs of white powder and four weighing scales. The drugs were identified as cocaine, heroin and morphine. O'Beirne, who had eight prior convictions, claimed he was holding the drugs to pay a debt and was unaware of the heroin or its value. He admitted responsibility, cited chronic kidney disease, anxiety and depression, and noted he was a father of two. The court heard he was now drug‑free, had completed a treatment programme, and was undertaking education and training as a trainee support worker for troubled youths. The unnamed accused pleaded guilty.
