Summary

In the Central Criminal Court, a jury resumed deliberations on the murder trial of Mark Nash, 42, who is accused of killing Sylvia Sheils, 59, and Mary Callanan, 61, between 6 and 7 March 1997. The victims were living in sheltered accommodation attached to St Brendan's Psychiatric Hospital in Grangegorman at the time of their deaths. The jury sought the initial statement of the late Dean Lyons, who had previously admitted to the murders and was charged with Callanan's murder on 27 July 1997, a charge later withdrawn in April 1998. Judge Carroll Moran reminded the jury that only evidence presented in court could be considered. The jury requested highlighters and drawing pens, viewed a video of the crime scene, and then paused for lunch before returning to continue deliberations. The trial remains ongoing. Mark Nash pleaded not guilty.
