Jail for man who helped organise violent robbery of his friend who was tied up and tortured

Summary

Marco Rodi, 40, was sentenced to seven years in prison with three years suspended for organising a violent robbery of his friend Nunzio De Luca. Rodi arranged for two men to enter De Luca's chip shop and home on Castle Street, Ringsend, Dublin, and helped them gain access. The men tied De Luca with cable ties, assaulted him, and used a screwdriver to torture him into revealing the location of his safe. They stole €6,000 in cash and €15,000 worth of jewellery. Rodi pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the robbery on 26 February 2012. Garda Brian Hunt noted that Rodi and De Luca were acquaintances from the Italian community. De Luca suffered a cracked nose, bruising, loss of sensation to his upper lip, back pain and ear injuries. Rodi had no prior convictions and had fled to Italy before the arrest warrant was issued.
