Summary

In March 2015 a Dublin court heard that a 68‑year‑old bus driver at a care facility for people with severe disabilities had been absolved of wrongdoing by the facility and cleared to return to work before he was convicted of sexually abusing a woman with the mental age of three. The driver was caught molesting the victim and forcing her to touch him. He denied the charge, claiming he was merely "gesticulating" during conversation. He was later sentenced to four years in prison, with the final two and a half years suspended on strict conditions, including no further contact with the victim. The facility and the man's identity remain anonymous to protect the victim's anonymity. The driver had been on paid leave at the time of the incident and declined the offer to return to work, eventually retiring at 65.
