Summary
In March 2014, George Croitoru, a 29‑year‑old Romanian, attacked Dawn Critchlow‑Burke on Dublin's North Circular Road. He dragged her to the ground, repeatedly kicked her in the face and head, punched her, and threatened her while she tried to escape. The assault left her with a perforated eardrum, fractured nose, black eyes and extensive bruising. Croitoru pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Martin Nolan described the attack as persistent, vicious and prolonged, noting that Croitoru "lost complete control." He imposed a sentence of three and a half years, with the final two years suspended, and ordered Croitoru to pay €1,000 to the victim as a token of remorse. The case was prosecuted by Martina Baxter BL, and Croitoru's defence argued he was intoxicated and had no prior convictions.
