Waterford murder trial hears of swelling on accused man's hands
Summary
In the Waterford murder trial, a jury heard that Garda Eugene O'Neill photographed a swelling on the accused William Moran's hands, taken the same week the body of Martin Brophy was found. Moran, 20, is charged with Brophy's murder at the old WIT building between 19 and 21 May 2012. He pleaded not guilty and is on trial at the Central Criminal Court. O'Neill explained he was asked to photograph Moran's hands after a colleague noticed a swelling, taking two photos on 22 May 2012. Detective Garda Emmett Dunphy confirmed he is a certified XRY operator and examined a sim card belonging to Moran. The jury also heard that items such as a cider bottle wrapper, plastic flaggins and Nike runners were found on New Gate Street and Castle Street between 22 and 25 May. The trial, expected to last three weeks, continues before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy with a jury of four women and eight men.
