Summary
In a 2015 hearing, a jury heard that Mark Nash, aged 42, gave a written statement to Gardaí on 17 August 1997, admitting he had stabbed two women in a house in Grangegorman, Dublin, five months earlier. Nash described leaving the GPO, drinking at a club, taking a wrong turn to Orchard View, breaking into the house, and using a bread knife to stab a woman in her bedroom and a second woman in another bedroom. He claimed he later regained control, left the house, and returned to his flat where he showered and slept. Nash also provided sketches of the house and a letter to his girlfriend. The statement was read by Detective Garda Gerard Dillon, and the case was presented to the Central Criminal Court, where Nash pleaded not guilty to the double murder of Sylvia Shields (59) and Mary Callanan (61).
