Summary
Michael Byrne, 25, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to two robberies. On 27 April 2014 he robbed a G4 cash‑in‑transit van at Raheny Shopping Centre, taking a cash box that contained €50,000. He had been travelling in a stolen car wearing a balaclava and had struck a security worker, then seized the box and fled. On 1 March 2014 he robbed a teenager on the DART from Sutton to Bayside, stealing an iPhone, iPad Mini, iPad Classic and Beats headphones worth €1,700. Byrne admitted he had taken the items after the teen had shown him his phone. Garda Andrew Fox described Byrne's use of a stolen vehicle, a balaclava, and the subsequent attempts to dispose of the cash box. The court noted the seriousness of both robberies and Byrne's admissions. The five‑year sentence was imposed by Judge Nolan.
