Summary

David Hogan, 31, an electrician whose life had unraveled, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for aggravated burglary and drug possession. On 22 March 2021 he and another man broke into a family home at The Gallops, Leopardstown, armed with a wheel brace, shouting threats and demanding the homeowner's son. Six days later, Hogan and two others returned; the homeowner closed the door, but they again threatened the occupants and damaged the car. Gardaí later found over €45,000 of drugs in Hogan's possession at Russell Crescent, Tallaght. Hogan pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, burglary and possession of drugs for sale or supply. Judge Melanie Greally noted the high level of threat and aggression, the family's intimidation, and Hogan's prior life as a qualified electrician. She imposed an eight‑year sentence, suspended the final two years, and back‑dated it to 31 March 2021 when he entered custody.
