73-year-old man gets date for 1981 murder trial
Summary
A 73‑year‑old man, Noel Long of Maulbawn, Passage West, will stand trial next summer for the 1981 murder of 54‑year‑old Nora Sheehan, whose body was found in Shippool Woods, Cork, six days after she disappeared. The trial is scheduled to begin on 6 June 2023, exactly 42 years after Sheehan was last seen alive. Mr Justice Paul McDermott set the date and agreed to allow recorded depositions from witnesses who have given statements to the Gardaí. The case will be heard in Dublin rather than Cork.
