Summary
Mary Maughan, a 39‑year‑old mother of six from Palmerstown Woods, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment, with the final two years suspended, after pleading guilty to assault causing harm. The offence occurred on 29 November 2011 at the Mill Shopping Centre in Clondalkin when Maughan, carrying a Stanley blade, attacked her sister‑in‑law Teresa Maughan. Maughan shouted insults, struck Teresa with the blade, slashing her neck and face. Teresa suffered severed tendons in her hands and required surgery. Garda Kamil Pawel Linder reported that Teresa was shopping in Dunnes Stores when the attack began, and that an off‑duty Garda intervened before Maughan was arrested. Maughan had two prior convictions involving the same sister‑in‑law, including a 100‑hour community service order for damaging her car.
