International fraudster sentenced for Electric Picnic and rental scams

James Carpenter, 31, of Ardee, Co. Louth, was sentenced in Dublin for fraud involving €500 Electric Picnic tickets and rental deposits. He promised tickets to a woman who paid via bank transfer after seeing a Gumtree advert; the tickets never arrived and Carpenter ignored her emails. Carpenter had previously been at large until April 2021, when he was arrested under a European arrest warrant and extradited after serving a six‑month sentence in Scotland for similar offences. He pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and was sentenced to six months for the ticket fraud and two years for the accommodation scams, with both terms running concurrently and back‑dated for time already served.
